Are you looking for us? We live at Lüch Picedac, a small rural farmhouse in the Dolomites of Alta Badia.
Your holiday home at our farmstead in Alto Adige
Lüch Picedac, a Ladin tonguetwister located in the Dolomites of Alto Adige.
If it's too difficult to say, just call us Barbara and Gregor. We are farmers - we hadn't set out to be, but life decided that this was our pathAnd it could not have been a better path for us. Up high in the mountains, above everything, immersed in nature and silence we raise our six children, just the way in which you'd imagine: surrounded by animals, pastures, herbs and vegetables grown in our own garden, with grandparents Alma and Albert.
You'll get the chance to meet everybody when you get here.
Lüch Picedac?
When you get in touch with us, we'll reveal how it's pronounced.
“Va bun”?
"Up here in the mountains we feel at home. We are far from the hustle and bustle of the valley below, immersed in tranquillity and harmony, at one with nature. We wish to share these feelings with all our guests".
Barbara Deval Pedevilla, farmer
It is located in “nosta vila”, a small fraction above La Valle.
In 2016, we took over Lüch Picedac, an isolated farmstead that, for over 220 years, has been located in a fraction of Val Badia. We are the third generation of our family to run the farmstead. In the evening, while the children are having fun in the famrstead's play area, we can enjoy the spectacular view of Sasso di Santa Croce, the Rit, the Pares peaks, the Conturines group and La Valle, the town you can see on the opposite side of the valley. We'll have the chance to cross paths with you, probably outdoors, while we are going to the garden or the stables.
Barbara and her mother Alma manage to grow vegetables and herbs even at this altitude.
Gregor and grandad Albert take care of the stable and the animals inside. The children and women are responsible for the hens, the quails, the rabbits and the cat.
Barbara learnt to milk the cows from her son, Jan. In a time of need, Jan said: "Don't worry mum, we'll take care of this". At the time, Jan was eight years old.
Everyone learns from everyone round here.
Do you fancy trying to be a farmer or gardener?
You don't have to, but if you are really itching to try...
A farmer's pride and joy.
Please, help yourselves!
Our aromatic herbs are located near the entrance for you to take leaves and branches, or simply just to breathe in the wonderful smell.
The scent of the mountains here is made up of parsley, chives (to make Knödel), marjoram, sage (for the mezzelune), laurel, basil, rosemary (for the risottos and the stew), oregano (for the pizza we make with you in the wooden oven), lavender for the line, thyme for coughs, lemon balm, peppermint and marigold, because we love drinking herbal teas.
If you like cooking alone, then "do your shopping" at our vegetable garden - just tell us what you need, and we'll get it for you.
Here, we advocate conscious eating
You can focus on enjoying the views of the mountains and forests all around. No need to worry about the ingredients in your food - we take care of this meticulously and know everything that goes in the food we serve you. Trust us: the best dishes are made with few, simple ingredients.
Farm products:
Our fresh haymilk comes from our cow who is milked daily - you can even have haymilk for breakfast if you wish.
The eggs are laid by our hens and quails and collected daily.
The jam grows on the bushes and trees: do you like currants, plums, strawberries and apricots?
Our juices are made with elderflower, our herbals teas with tilia flowers, primrose, lemon balms and peppermint.
Our herb-scented salt remains our little secret. You can taste it and, if you really like it, we might just let you in on the secret...
All that is missing from this list of ingredients is the wheat that we buy and grind to make wholemeal bread for breakfast and cakes to enjoy with coffee at snack time.
"I make wholemeal bread for our guests every day. I don’t have a recipe. It’s too exciting to choose the ingredients according to my preferences and tastes ".
Barbara Deval Pedevilla, farmer
Other products:
Our yoghurt, cheeses and butter are made by the Mila dairy factory, even with our haymilk. Every respectable farmer makes his own speck with a selection of herbs. You'll notice the difference: Alto Adige farmers are real experts when it comes to making it. And it cannot miss the honey of our valleys, coffee and cereals.

We'll bring it to your apartment door every day.
In 2017, we built a new house in a style that combines traditional and modern vibes. In it, there are two apartments to house our guests. A brick house (because this seemed like the most reasonable option) with a wood and solar panel heating system powered by a photovoltaic system. The curtains are made with loden, the traditional South Tirol wool fabric, the ceiling and the furniture are made of untreated pinewood and the floors are made of durmast. Gregor and his father-in-law Albert take their wood from the forest on their land, as farmers do around here. Futhermore - and this is an important detail, we have paid attention to where the sun sets.
The view of the apartments faces the direction of the sunset. It would be a real shame to miss out on the enrosadira as we Ladins call it, or in English 'Alpenglow', that is when a reddish glow illuminates the mountains. Legend has it that this phenomenon happens because King Laurino forgot to conceal his rose garden at twilight from the eyes of onlookers.
Doesn't it sound romantic?

At the farmstead and in surrounding areas
We met while playing in a music band. Barbara played the concert flute, Gregor played the trombone.
Both believe that culture, tradition and nature bring people together.
We celebrate special occasions like people used to do in the past:
with the children welcoming in the New Year, the broomsticks made of sticks at Easter, the fireworks of the"Hearth of Jesus " on the mountains in June, and the furtaies, a cake that we make at the end of the hay harvest. And if you like, we'll tell you one of the legends of the Dolomites.
What muscles do you use at work and in your daily life at the farmstead?
Find out for yourself! You can try: mowing and collecting the harvest, milking the cow, feeding the animals, going out on an excursion to our shepherd's hut once a week in winter; and in summer, if there is still some time left, enjoying excursions or day trips on mountain bikes leaving and arriving directly at the farmstead.
Do you fancy hunting for treasures hidden in nature? Let's go and collect mushrooms and aromatic herbs, and let's observe the wild animals together with grandpa Albert. Are you as good as he is at spotting them?
Are you looking for well-being for body and soul?
You'll find it right at your doorstep, observing the landscape from the sunbed, listening to the birds chirping... or maybe you were looking for something more exciting?
OK then - tonight, you can sleep in the hay!
Activities on request and for paying:
Alta Badia is famous for its unique culinary tradition. And we know that grandma Alma knows just how to make Ladin food. Her pièce de resistance are tutres which she prepares by hand, giving the past its unique shape without using molds and stretching the pastry until it is as fine as it can be. Stuffed with spinach and ricotta, potatoes or herbs, tutres are then fried in oil. "Mum definitely knows how to make them" says Barbara, who is still trying to learn!
Would you like to try too?
We'd love to show you how we cook:
Traditional Ladin dishes
Make bread according to the family recipes... or your own taste (Barbara's speciality)
Make pizza in the wooden oven Season the salt with herbs
Make cakes, such as the furtaies
We can teach you how to make stunning, unique objects with natural materials:
baskets made of larch branches
dolls made with straw
... or whatever pops into our mind...
Let's start with sports. You don't intend on spending your entire holiday working at the farmstead, of course. Our location, in the heart of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage site, offers many possibilities.
Cycle, go snow-walking, sledging, Alpine skiing or go on excursions. For some excursions, you can actually set off from the farmstead. We also have a mountain bike trail right near the farmstead - Gregor is the person to ask for information about this.
A Land of Excursionists La Val/La Valle. La Val is the first municipality in Europe to have the "Land of Excursionists" certification. When you reach the Armentara pastures, you'll understand why.
Skiing. We are located between two huge skiing complexes: Plan de Corones and Alta Badia, which are both 15 km away.
Culture worth experiencing. We preserve our most precious treasures in our museums:
Museum Ladin dedicated to Ladin culture ((Link zu http://www.museumladin.it); in San Cassiano, you can find the remains of the Ursus ladinicus, the prehistoric cave bear.
MMM Corones. It is one of the six Reinhold Messner museums dedicated to Alpine history; it is a building designed by the Zaha Hadid architectural firm and is located on Plan de Corones.
Ötzi. Have you not seen it yet? Then you should plan a day out to visit the Archaelogical Museum of Alto Adige in Bolzano. Maybe it will help you to understand us mountain people better too?
If your spirituality is looking for a safe haven, then you'll find three places of pilgrimage nearby:
The house in which San Giuseppe Freinademetz was born in Oies near Pedraces
The house of Blessed Father Enrico Videsott in La Valle
The Santa Croce Sanctuary under Sasso di Santa Croce
and much more...let Gregor and Barbara advice you!
Are you looking for something in particular? We'll help you find it!
A full moon bonfire
Everyone should do this, at least once in their lifetime, even if after you'll smell like burnt wood! We'll bring the wood. You focus on being hypnotised by the fire.
Deer mating season.
Once you experience this, you'll finally know the true meaning of the term 'belling'. Grandpa Albert is a hunter who knows a fair share about this and will accompany you. You just need to set four days aside. The best time is late September/early October. We can't plan this to perfection. Certain things need to follow the rhythm of nature.
Is your child celebrating his or her birthday?
Right while you are on holiday? We cannot magic his or her friends to the farmstead, but we bake a cake for you.

How to reach the Picedac
A way to a breathtaking holiday...
The Lüch Picedac farmstead is in Alta Badia and is located at 1470 metres. There is no straight road that will bring you here, nor a motorway. But we're guessing you already figured that out, right? However, there is a road you can use even in winter, as the road is always clear to allow our children to go down to school in the valley on the schoolbus.
Follow the State Road of Val Badia (number 244) till Pederoa. Just after the signage is on the left the pizzeria Traföi and on the right a cross. Turn right towards Picedac and continue the road for 3.5 km. Welcome, on the right side of the road you'll find our farmhouse "Lüch Picedac"
(GPS coordinates: 46°39'21.76"N 11°53'57.2"E).

Thoughts and wishes of our guests
Lena:
An absolutely beautiful and breathtaking location, the apartment is an amazing space. The newly built property is part of a farm house that sits on a mountain / hillside with stunning views - balcony spaces are great, living area comfortable, kitchen well equipped, and modern, tastefully designed and decorated space. The views are hard to capture on camera. Must experience for yourself my Really couldn’t imagine a more beautiful location to spend a few quiet days in the Dolomites, feel like you get to really experience the farm area as well (fresh eggs from the chickens and sound of cowbells on the hill). Great walks around the property and plenty of good hiking nearby. The hosts Barbara and Gregor were so kind and caring! Made us feel at home and taken care of. If you are looking for a magical farm house retreat in the Dolomites, book this place now.
Cloe:

The apartment is perfect - new, beautiful design, clean and very comfortable. The location is like heaven on earth. Staying here was a highlight of our trip to Europe, I will miss waking up to the view of the mountains and fresh air. The owners of the property were so hospitable and kind. It was a privilege to stay on their property. I would highly recommend this place! And hope to come back someday.
Nina:
Fairytale mountain apartment with an excellent view I couldn't imagine better accommodation for my skiing holiday. It was simply all I could wish for... Let me start from cleanliness: not one single objection. When I say clean, i mean CLEAN. Then, apartment itself is like from a movie: with a bench on the window, so you could drink wine and enjoy the view at the mountains, sky and stars. Location is great because of this view, it was what we wanted and hoped for. Not to forget, the apartment was very well equipped, and everything was new. At the end, our host Barbara was excellent, really quick on all our requests and wishes. We all had such a great time, I would go there again. Definitely a recommendation.
